The winter season is the perfect occasion for a visit to Australia`s capital, Canberra. Too cold for camping, so time for a city trip.

Everyone warned us that Canberra is too cold. But this little Belgians didn`t mind a little frost on the car in the morning, we were rather nostalgique. But surprinsing indeed to feel temperature dropping by 10 degrees after only 3,5 hours inland drive.

Here some impressions of our visit. Canberra is know for its National Museums, all free to the public.

National Australia Museum

Our favourit. Awesome exhibitions about Australia`s extreme environment, and how people have survived and lived.

Awesome exhibitions about the forces of nature, which have dictated the way of live, the first nations people, the settlers , ...

The Mint

Here is were they make the money ! Interesting how materials, value, sizes of coins evolved over time. You can see the factory through a glazed wall. Did you know that the decimal system was only introduced 50 years ago ?

National Gallery

The National Arboretum

Supercool hills patched with around 90 patches of different types of trees, from Himalayan Pines to Giant Sequoias. There is even a patch with the offspring of the 900 years old oak still standing in Robin Hood`s Sherwoord Forest.

Questacon

This interactif science museum for kids, is comparable to Technopolis in Belgium, was a top favourite for the kids.

Old Bus Market

On this local Sunday morning market we bought big seeds of the Aussie Bean Ball Trees, to grow our own rainforest at home. Expected to germinate into miniature trees 6-8 weeks. We also chose a nice pot with a cluster of 6 months old growing jade green balls. Watering all with love!
