This town is proud of its heritage, as a railway hub on the north-south and east-west travel axis. The railways were introduced in 1879 and important to the survival of early settlers, miners, soldiers, etc
Every night at sunset a beautiful art work light show on the silo's informs the visitors of this town about:
- Local volunteers/women cooking during WWII for train passengers: soldiers going north to the front, refugees fleeing south after bombardments of Darwin by the Japanese etc. These women lifted the spirits of people with an uncertain future. Beautiful
- Volunteers striding for the preservation of the local railway in the 70's
- Native fauna and flora
- The secrets of invisible water, flowing under the surface of the dry landscapes
This week a special memorial is added for upcoming ANZAC day on 25 April commemorating Australian & NZ soldiers efforts.
We sleep at the open air machinery museum, run by volunteers, on the dusty red soil.
The moon is getting rounder and rounder, almost full moon!
