15 July 2022 - Litchfield National Park

Today only a short drive, we set our tent on the campground close to another magical place. Three times we will go to the Wangi Falls, in each experience so different and new.

1* Afternoon

First time in a while we get the chance to eat an ice cream, an offer you can`t refuse... ! Yummy...

In the afternoon the plunge pool is visited by many people, we go for a swim, the water is cold! We swim towards the falls and in the falling water drops we see a rainbow .... :-) !

This little fellow was warming up at the border of the pool, a little goanna.

Waaaw... this is my new favourite bird, soaring like a jet, so colourful! A blue tummy, red wings, a zorro mask and some yellow and read around its head.... I try to catch it in a picture but impossible... so tiny, so fast, such a wonder!

Rainbow Bee-eater

2* Sunset

At sunset, we go back to the falls listening to the raising voices of the forest. It gets darker and suddenly we see something big moving in the trees.

Thomas said look that huge bird, and I see something like a monkey on the branch of a tree... But it is a bat really, wrapped around the branches, waking up and unfolding its wings. It is huge! And suddenly they are everywhere! From the trees, hundreds of Flying Foxes are awakening at the same time and taking off in the pink blue sky!

So impressive!

3* Sunrise

It is still all dark but we have been going to sleep with the sun and are awake earlier every day. Getting out of bed isn`t easy but sunrise has so much beauty, so hop we go all five, we put on our clothes in the dark and leave without breakfast for a sunrise walk.

The moon is high a beautiful, the bats are going to sleep now.

We climb through forest and climb our way up all to the top of the platform.

What a view ..... !! And all this endless nature, peace and silence..... Unforgettable!
