17th April 2022
Leaving Dubbo the gps shows 163km till the next turn... in total of 400km ahead of us today.
After a couple of hours driving we stop in Cobar, an old mining town know for its cupper, everything is closed, but there is an impressive playground with trees. Perfect for the picknick.
Today we would like to set up the tents before sunset. Arriving in Gundabooka National Park we are welcomed by an information board. The start of a red dust road, the camp site is another 20km.
Mulgowan track
Late afternoon and perfect time to walk the Mulgowan track which leads to impressive aboriginal paintings in the rocks at the feet of Mt Gundabooka.

Find the emu!

Incredible how aboriginal people have survived in this hot dry country. The oldest living culture, more than 40.000 years of knowledge of nature, and wisdom passed from generation to generation, through storytelling, painting and ceremonies. I feel very grateful to be here.
The sunset makes our return walk magical.
We see emus running through the woodland next to us! And a kangaroo jumps over the road in front of us...
The night falls fast, but it is full moon. Once your eyes get used to the dark no need for light. We cook pasta. No electricity, no lights, no sounds.
Once the kids are asleep, the silence is so dominant that i can here my heart bouncing in my ears.... I sit, enjoy and watch the stars...

Little Mountain track
You are lucky (or not) to have a crazy mum taking you into the outback and proposing a hike at 6am without taking breakfast.

The air is cool and fresh, sun still low, only enlightening the tops of the bushes. Rocky steps lead to the top of Little Mountain offering a splendid view on the Gundabooka range, a unique 500m high rock formation in a endless sea of bushes as flat a horizon can be.

After a well deserved breakfast we hit the road to Tibooburra.

Waaauw zo'n mooie foto's! Goed bezig daar! Geniet ervan sjoekes 😘
