26th February 2022
It has been raining almost continuously for weeks now. The Australian feel already depressed by the 'bad' summer and even for us Belgians, it is becoming a bit too much.
It is really showering down on us big time, so we were smart enough to cancel our camping trip to the Blue Mountains this weekend.
Little rivers on the streets, cascades from the roof gutters, and occasional puddles of water inside the house ... it is all part of daily live for the moment.
But we are very lucky to live high and dry in the center, we even continue cycling to work every day. After all cycling in the rain is really not a big deal when it is still 20-25 degrees!
Several suburbs of Sydney are evacuated, some colleagues are blocked in their neighbourhood as access roads are flooded, trains cancelled,....
I wonder where all this water keeps coming from.... ? I thought Australia was the land of bushfires? It is all because of La Niña.
Who the hell is La Nina? I hear you thinking. La Niña is a weather pattern that occurs in the Pacific Ocean and causes heavy rainfall, increased flooding and cyclone risk in Eastern Australia.

On the other hand you have El Niño, a weather pattern causing extreme drought and increased bushfires.
Click on the image to see why both extremely different events happen that often here in Australia:
So we have to cross fingers for all people to stay safe and wait till la Niña is over....
The Blue Mountains are not going anywhere. We will wait patiently till the sun comes back to go places again and share our next adventures with you!
In the mean time, very wet kisses from Sydney X
