26-29 January 2023

Back to the side of the world where January means hot and bright, we are happy to tune in on the summer vibes.

The public holiday on Thursday tempted us to make this last weekend of the summer school holidays, a long weekend of 4 days. We will charge our batteries before rolling back into the daily routine.

After a busy and intens vacation in Belgium we choose to go back to a quite place we already know: our very first Australian camping spot in North Durras.

How interesting to see how the way the water flows in and out between the lake and the sea has completely changed, different shapes of sand and water unfolded.

There is a little extra this year, a kids surf board, surprise from Santa which waited for us upon our return home. Since last year we also swapped our 2 little hiking tents for a big family tent which offers us very welcome awning for the rain, shaded space during the day and big mosquitoproof openings with breezes at night.

We got visit from Susan, who we met last year in this very place, our first australian friend. Her teenage kids didn't join this weekend, so our kids are all over her and have plenty of fun. They love helping out with cooking: eggs and bacon for breakfast, pasta or hamburgers at night, ....

The waves are strong and beautiful. Tristan and Chloe enjoy the surf. Aiko prefers 'the swimming pool' meaning the water without waves and also tries standing on the board.

We all get sunburned, even using UV T-shirt and sunscreen SP50.

Saturday night movie night! We watch Red Dog a very Australian movie about a very special dog, hard working immigrants in a little town lost in the very far west of Australia. Based on a true story, here below the trailer, for whoever enjoys the Australian accent.

Sleeping bags in the grass , not every one got to the end of the film....

Sunday morning packing up is quicker than planned as it starts suddenly pouring rain during breakfast. We pack everything in a big hurry and leave early.

Despite our early departure we takes us till the evening to get home. The four hours drive back to Sydney turns into a seven and half hour drive (incl one lunch stop). We might avoid returning to Sydney on the last summer holiday next year. Tomorrow the new school year starts ... !
